WHAT IS SETG?


The Southeast Texas GigaPOP also known as SETG is an affiliation of institutions with a common interest in facilitating advanced networking in the Research and Education community.  SETG provides high-speed, global connectivity and other commodity services.  SETG also serves a connector to the Lonestar Education Network and Internet2.  

 

WHO DOES SETG SERVE?

 

SETG supports universities, K-12 education networks, healthcare and non-profit institutions that promote research, public service missions and community partnerships.  The goals of SETG are to:

 

  • Foster advanced networking in support of research and education;

  • Share intellectual capital and material resources to further the development and delivery of advanced network services and applications to our communities;

  • Aggregate services to benefit from economies of scale;

  • Encourage collaboration among participating institutions and our respective academic communities;

  • Consolidate regional representation of our interests to the larger state-wide, national and international community, and;

  • Collaborate with other organizations pursuing advanced networking.

 

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

 

SETG participants meet regularly at Rice University to consider issues at hand and to hear from and talk with advanced network advocates, manufacturers, and service providers about their efforts, products, and services, as well as their commitment to advanced networking initiatives such as Internet2. Originally created in 1997 as the Texas GigaPOP, the group was one of the original interconnection points for Internet2's original network, Abilene.  More...
