Routing Communities

Communities added by SETG to all routes that enter AS4557

Communities that Participants can use to affect SETG Routing Advertisements

Today, a participant can tag a route injected into SETG (as defined by IRR) with a community of the form 4557:ASN where ASN is another participant’s AS number (e.g. 8 for Rice, 302 for BCM, etc.) and that route will not be announced by SETG (AS4557) to the participant with that AS number. Any number of communities may be attached to stop that route from going to more than one participant. This will stay in affect as long as the participant announces the route with the communities to SETG. Should the route be widthdrawn alltogether, all participants will not have the route announced to them (since SETG doesn’t have the route announcement to pass along).

NOTE: This does not work for peers, only for participants. So, this technique will not stop announcements to Internet2.

Please direct question, comments and enhancement suggestions about this capability to the mailing list.
